Create Windows 7 Universal ISO with All Editions Selection Menu on Install with ei.cfg Removal Utility

For Windows users who tried to install Windows Vista on his own machine, there are a difference will be noticeable when installing or upgrading to Windows 7, Windows 7 setup wizard no longer prompts or asks for user selection of which edition to be installed. Each Windows 7 DVD or Windows 7 ISO will automatically install the present specific edition which it’s confined to.

Although Microsoft does not provide an universal “one disc rules them all” Windows 7 installation media, however user just need to delete and remove the ei.cfg from any Windows 7 ISO disc image to convert the image into a universal disc of any edition Windows 7 installer.

There are two method to remove the ei.cfg files:

Method 1:

  1. Download and install an disc image utility software such as PowerISO or UltraISO to open and modify the ISO image of Windows 7.
  2. Browse to /sources/ folder.
  3. Locate ei.cfg file.
  4. Depending on preference, it’s possible have a delete option, simply delete ei.cfg file.
  5. The modified ISO can also be burned to a DVD disc or saved to a new ISO image.

Another method should be easier and recommended for newbie.

Method 2:

The ei.cfg Removal Utility is a portable application and no installation required tool that will disable the ei.cfg from any Windows 7 ISO disc image, converting the image into a “universal disc” that wil prompt the user to select a preferred edition during setup. ei.cfg Removal Utility work directly to patch the ISO image wihout any disc utility. ei.cfg REmoval Utility can also reverse the patching to restore the original state of ISO disc image when the tool is been used to apply on a disc image that previously been patched by the utility.
